ITALIAN ARTISTIC CERAMICS: In twelve lessons of 2 1/2 hours each, students will be introduced to the art of Italian ceramics. The aesthetic and technical aspects of the ceramic process and a survey of the three most important Italian schools are presented. Studio sessions will develop hand-building, wheel-throwing, decorating, glazing, and firing skills*. In eight lessons of 2 1/2 hours each, Italian decorating techniques and craftsmanship are taught. Forms will be pre-molded or hand made by the students. Tuition includes: Glazing materials and "firing" fee. Tool kit and green ware not included.
Instructor: Roberto Paolinelli was born and raised in Pescara, Italy. This modern Italian master who employs Renaissance classical design in his work, began his apprenticeship in the town of Castelli d’Abruzzi. In this renowned VI century artistic center, he learned his techniques from experienced masters. His ceramics have been exhibited in many Italian galleries, and since 1994 he has done customized work in the Washington, DC area.
